Immediate Upgradation of Airports of Odisha
To: The Prime Minister, Republic of India
Sub: Upgradation of Airports and Air connectivity in Odisha.
Dear Sir:
While each of India’s parts should progress for India to go ahead, some are really falling behind, increasing the GAP in development. Such is the case with Odisha. In recent past various central projects have not been located in the other areas of Odisha, in a distributed manner, under the plea that areas are not Air connected. We have seen this argument again and again and again.
The recent Central University of Orissa (CUO), of Koraput, is a case in point. It’s VC, under the deceptive cover of poor connectivity of Koraput, has started a parallel campus in BBSR, while operating from Kolkata. This must be stopped and will be stopped.
But what stands out is lack of Regional Airports in Odisha and it’s lack of overall Air connectivity. We are thus presenting an overall proposal of Air connectivity in Odisha, with a request you thus Sir, to kindly consider & implement the following at the minimum:
- Upgrade the 60 years old regional Airport at BBSR to an International Airport.
- Expedite and complete the construction of ongoing Domestic Airport in Jharsugda district, in western Odisha, within next two years.
- Reinvigorate and evaluate for a possible domestic airport for the unused South regional Jeypore Airport, Koraput in to action in next 2 years.
This will enable the remote areas of Odisha to be connected to the places of national importance and will prevent lack of air connectivity as a alibi, for not locating Institutes of National importance in the backward areas.
In addition to the above , Airports at Rourkela , Berhampur and Rayagada can be developed further in future which were once upon a time used for emergency landing. These airports can serve as feeder to the above full fledged Airports.

This is highly essential for the pride of the State and bringing in more opportunities as well.
It’s expected to give a real fillip to the state’s fortunes, put it for prominence on the world map and show the true picture of development.

IT in India is growing a lot. Like Bangalore , Hyderabad, Kolkata , Chennai , Pune also we are having around 15-20 Software companies in Bhubaneswar . In my thinking when the outside client is coming for location visit their first question is why Bhubaneswar is not having any International Airport. As we are growing then Mr PM please help the city to grow so that we will increase our wealth as well as reputation.
Bhubaneswar is having a lot of land and communication wise is also good . It is a planned city like Chandigarh . If IT companies started targeting Bhubaneswar as their next target in India then lets make Bhubaneswar Airport counted in International market. Thanks.

I am supporting the petition to have an International airport at Bhubaneswar for increasing the air connectivity of Bhubaneswar with differerent world business and tourist centers particularly those in the Eastern hemisphere.
I am also support establishment/ up-gradation of airports at Jharusuguda and Jeypore for fulfilling the airport connectivity of Western and Southern Odisha respectively.

I absolutely support and reaffirm the urgent need for improvement in air connectivity of Odisha. This must be accomplished at the earliest by upgrading/building airports at the above mentioned strategic locations in the state.
This will be a giant step in making Odisha a developed state, in step with the country’s march towards prosperity!
This should be done ASAP as more than half of the population of odisha working at stations which are already declared and established as International ariport.

Upgradation of BBsr airport is highly necessary
Not just up gradation, up gradation and constant maintenance is vital. But A question comes to my mind; what is the need of internationalizing airports at a point where the government is unable to maintain airport standards of non internationalized airports of Odisha?
Its really feeling good.
We request for the internationalisation of the Bhubaneswar airport as soon as possible as it is going to be one of the prominant IT hub in near future because of the interest shown by diffent IT giants for Bhubaneswar to be one of their dwelling places .

It is not essential to be an International Airport, rather it is very much required the facilities and the frequency of the national flights must be increased. Then after we can think about an International Airport.

As an entrepreneur and resident of ODISHA , I strongly urge the PMO of INDIA to acknowledge the need of an INertnational Airport in Bhubanewar and to take the necessary steps to materialize the need.
I fully support the principles expressed in this petition towards upgrading and declaring Bhubaneswar as International Airport as well as expediting the airport expansion work at Jharsuguda at the earliest.
During the NDA government Mr Atal Bihari Bajpayee had inagurated to make it to a international airport, but that was never materialized. Mostly due to infrastructure and the the governments not showing intrests and pushing to center for making it possible.
We would definitely need an International Airport for our capital city to support the Tourism and the growth of Industrial, education and IT sector.
Proper utilization of money and resources with good intense planning would make this happen. Let our digital voice be heard and listened by the governing body, PM and President of India.

Comparing to other states, Air connectivity to Odisha is very poor. Looking at the scale of industrialisaton in orissa, the Airports should be of international standard.
