Immediate Upgradation of Airports of Odisha
To: The Prime Minister, Republic of India
Sub: Upgradation of Airports and Air connectivity in Odisha.
Dear Sir:
While each of India’s parts should progress for India to go ahead, some are really falling behind, increasing the GAP in development. Such is the case with Odisha. In recent past various central projects have not been located in the other areas of Odisha, in a distributed manner, under the plea that areas are not Air connected. We have seen this argument again and again and again.
The recent Central University of Orissa (CUO), of Koraput, is a case in point. It’s VC, under the deceptive cover of poor connectivity of Koraput, has started a parallel campus in BBSR, while operating from Kolkata. This must be stopped and will be stopped.
But what stands out is lack of Regional Airports in Odisha and it’s lack of overall Air connectivity. We are thus presenting an overall proposal of Air connectivity in Odisha, with a request you thus Sir, to kindly consider & implement the following at the minimum:
- Upgrade the 60 years old regional Airport at BBSR to an International Airport.
- Expedite and complete the construction of ongoing Domestic Airport in Jharsugda district, in western Odisha, within next two years.
- Reinvigorate and evaluate for a possible domestic airport for the unused South regional Jeypore Airport, Koraput in to action in next 2 years.
This will enable the remote areas of Odisha to be connected to the places of national importance and will prevent lack of air connectivity as a alibi, for not locating Institutes of National importance in the backward areas.
In addition to the above , Airports at Rourkela , Berhampur and Rayagada can be developed further in future which were once upon a time used for emergency landing. These airports can serve as feeder to the above full fledged Airports.

Yeah Bhubaneswar Airport should be made an international airport as soon as possible and South Asian Destinations like Hong Kong, Singapore, Bangkok, KL should be connected with Bbsr!!!
NRI from Orissa want to go directly to their State, rather than going vai Delhi, Mumbai, Kokata etc.
Kerla has so many international airport. We have only one domestic…

It is imperative to upgrade the facilities at the main airport and setup airports (particularly western Orissa) if we are looking to maintain the progress our state is seeing or about to see.

yes, Bhubaneswar airport should be converted to Internation Airport. Always Center neglects Orissa in different way. Bhubaneswar Airport is one of them. We want as soon as possible the air port should renovet as international airport.

It couldn’t be possible with present political scenario of Orissa, where land acquisition is considered as a major opportunity to gain political support from the land losers. You people , who have signed here would also protest the government’s act at the time of land acquisition. It is necessary to build infrasture for development of Ordisha.
Expedite the process of development. We have been discriminated enough dut to no political visbility at center. Its now the time for leader of all political parties to shun thier differences and cooperate each other for inclusive development of holy land orissa. It doesn’t matter which party or political coalition comes to center they have always been indifferent to oriss. When Atal Behari Vajapayi was the prime minister the supe cyclone hit and devastated orissa on 29th october 1999 and sadly it was not declared national disaster. In 2008 when half of orissa was deludged in flodd merey 100 crore came as assistance from center while Bihar got 1000 Crore. An laughingly Advani was advocating this to be declared as national distater who kept silent when his party’s government didn’t do the same in 1999.
Orissa has been greatly neglected. By now it has been high time that we establish proper infastructure in Orissa.
This is the least we are expecting.
We must have the Bbsr Airport converted to International Status which will act as an emerency alternative to Kolkata Airport, improve tourist inflow and cater to the needs of many foreign professionals who are coming to Orissa for business purpose .
PM has to take immediate attention towards the development of already declared international Biju patnaik airport in Orissa. NRI Oriya are facing lot of problems when they are going home .
It’s absolute necessary to upgrade the airport as it seems like a bus stand. This is a complete shame for us.

direct flight is not available from agra to bhubaneswara,i have to move First Delhi then to BBSR.

I support for Domestic Airport in Jharsuguda as entire Western Orissa is in massive industrialization process. Sambalpur-Jharsuguda along with its surrounding localities have the need and potential for a full fledge Domestic Airport. State Govt should immediately fulfill the required land demanded by the AAI.
