Immediate Upgradation of Airports of Odisha
To: The Prime Minister, Republic of India
Sub: Upgradation of Airports and Air connectivity in Odisha.
Dear Sir:
While each of India’s parts should progress for India to go ahead, some are really falling behind, increasing the GAP in development. Such is the case with Odisha. In recent past various central projects have not been located in the other areas of Odisha, in a distributed manner, under the plea that areas are not Air connected. We have seen this argument again and again and again.
The recent Central University of Orissa (CUO), of Koraput, is a case in point. It’s VC, under the deceptive cover of poor connectivity of Koraput, has started a parallel campus in BBSR, while operating from Kolkata. This must be stopped and will be stopped.
But what stands out is lack of Regional Airports in Odisha and it’s lack of overall Air connectivity. We are thus presenting an overall proposal of Air connectivity in Odisha, with a request you thus Sir, to kindly consider & implement the following at the minimum:
- Upgrade the 60 years old regional Airport at BBSR to an International Airport.
- Expedite and complete the construction of ongoing Domestic Airport in Jharsugda district, in western Odisha, within next two years.
- Reinvigorate and evaluate for a possible domestic airport for the unused South regional Jeypore Airport, Koraput in to action in next 2 years.
This will enable the remote areas of Odisha to be connected to the places of national importance and will prevent lack of air connectivity as a alibi, for not locating Institutes of National importance in the backward areas.
In addition to the above , Airports at Rourkela , Berhampur and Rayagada can be developed further in future which were once upon a time used for emergency landing. These airports can serve as feeder to the above full fledged Airports.

Yes, I do agree with the proposal and needs to be implemented on priority. We need international Air port and also need other airports in Jaipur or Koraput or Berhampur and Jharsuguda for our development. It is one of the major issues which should be taken up for the developement of odisha and will add to India’s growth.

I am from Cuttack, Odisha but reside in United Kingdom. I am an Indian citizen. I visit Odisha atleast 2-3 times a year.
I fully agree with this proposal to open the airport in Jharsuguda and Jaipur, Koraput.
I wish it is successful.
The recent economic boom that Orissa is clearly spearheaded by the mining sector. Hence it has become more so important to strengthen the supporting infrastructures in the state. Airports and air connectivity will go a long way to ensure quicker connectivity not only to the state but to various unaccessible regions of the state.

Dear Prime Minister,
As you probably know, Odisha has become the popular choice for investors (the state has already received investment proposals worth 100 billions dollars) , thanks to mining and all other natural resources. But its not just the mining that is attracting investors, there is more to it. Our state is blessed with nature, mountains, rivers, lakes, coastline,flora and fauna and culture. Visitors are attracted by the unique culture , as well as those warm hearted people. Its ironical that despite so much of richness, Odisha has been facing serious infrastructure problems which is hampering growth.
Due to lack of adequate road/rail connectivity in the rural areas , the benefits of growth is not reaching the poor. There is an immediate need to expand and upgrade the Bhubaneswar domestic airport to an International airport and complete the construction of domestic airport at Jharsugda and Jeypore. I would request you to please peronally look into the matter , as investment growth in Odisha is of paramount importance to the country.

I strongly support for the cause of up gradation of Bhubaneswar airport to International airport and making a domestic airport at Jharsuguda or upgrading the SAIL airport at Rourkela to domestic airport.
I fully support this cause. Bhubaneswar is growing at a exponential pace. I myself stayin here couldn’t even think of what some of the places were lookin like 2 years back. It deserves a international airport more than any other state at present. This will help overcome orissa as the poorest state in India.

Govt of India should help with all possible financial and political help to keep Orissa’s vibrant economy on a growth path.

I would like to have Bijupatnaik airport to be upgraded to an International Status.But what I found in my last vacation we donot have a political will to this.We as odiya should work together to bring the state in to national level forgettingf our political difference.
It’s time the Central Government ceased ignoring connectivity for Orissa. The upgrading of Bhubaneswar airport to international status would facilitate rerouting of international airlines and serve the interest of business as well as leisure travellers.
