Immediate Upgradation of Airports of Odisha
To: The Prime Minister, Republic of India
Sub: Upgradation of Airports and Air connectivity in Odisha.
Dear Sir:
While each of India’s parts should progress for India to go ahead, some are really falling behind, increasing the GAP in development. Such is the case with Odisha. In recent past various central projects have not been located in the other areas of Odisha, in a distributed manner, under the plea that areas are not Air connected. We have seen this argument again and again and again.
The recent Central University of Orissa (CUO), of Koraput, is a case in point. It’s VC, under the deceptive cover of poor connectivity of Koraput, has started a parallel campus in BBSR, while operating from Kolkata. This must be stopped and will be stopped.
But what stands out is lack of Regional Airports in Odisha and it’s lack of overall Air connectivity. We are thus presenting an overall proposal of Air connectivity in Odisha, with a request you thus Sir, to kindly consider & implement the following at the minimum:
- Upgrade the 60 years old regional Airport at BBSR to an International Airport.
- Expedite and complete the construction of ongoing Domestic Airport in Jharsugda district, in western Odisha, within next two years.
- Reinvigorate and evaluate for a possible domestic airport for the unused South regional Jeypore Airport, Koraput in to action in next 2 years.
This will enable the remote areas of Odisha to be connected to the places of national importance and will prevent lack of air connectivity as a alibi, for not locating Institutes of National importance in the backward areas.
In addition to the above , Airports at Rourkela , Berhampur and Rayagada can be developed further in future which were once upon a time used for emergency landing. These airports can serve as feeder to the above full fledged Airports.

My request to all of you, please think about our Odisha’s people & visitor. Who all are depending on Bhubaneswar Airport. Many of our guest are facing traveling problem to Odisha who all are coming from out of India. There are no International flights to operate BBI. So they are not interest to visit Odisha. That’s why day by day our International guest percentage is reducing. One thing all of you knows very well, In Ratha Yatra (Chariot Festival, Puri) time any traveling options (AIR, TRAIN, BUS) are very rush. So our guests are not getting any chance to visit our beautiful Odisha. That time they are return there destination from other International Airport. So our Government is loosing foreign currency & tax.
In our Odisha there are lots of visiting place. Like Temple City, Chilika, Nandankanan, Wild life and many moor.
Now a day’s many Indian & MNC companies came to Odisha for investing there money. So they want direct Int. flight to Bhubaneswar for business development.
But our Chief Minister is not taking interest to developing that air port. If his father (Let BIJU PATNAYAK) still alive, definitely he change our Odisha & Odisha’s people leaving style. But Nabin Patnayak can not understand our fillings. Because he does not know Odiya Language. Some time he is doing good job but not like his father.
About Airport just compare our state with other state. Who all are having two to three International Airports. Because of strong politician.
THIS TIME IS NOT A TIME TO SPEECH. THIS IS A TIME TO DO SOMETHING. SO MY REQUEST TO ALL OUR ODISHA BASI, PLEASE WEAK UP & GIVE A VOICE SUPPORT TO BHUBANESWAR AIRPORT. IF REQUIRED GIVE A PHYSICIAN SUPPORT ALSO. THEN ONLY ODISHA GOVT. & CENTRAL GOVT. WILL FULFILL OUR DEMAND. OTHERWISE………….
Yes I want to upgrade the Bhubaneswar airport to internation type and also develop other two airports.
Lets make Odisha a most preffered destination for entrepreneurs.
It is absolute must. State cannot develop unless transportation and communication is improved
Orissa being neglected from ages. Even though we are rich in natural resources. We are having surplus electricity, iron ores, minerals and possible there may be deposition of oil & gas in Mahanadi. But still after the 60+ years of independence we are still not yet developed.
I know India is not that developed too. But compare to other states of India we are lacking behind. It is because of our own people, the Representatives of Orissa (CM, other political people), who represent for us (Odiyas) in the Center (Delhi).
We need our Representative should strong enough to get his/her demand in front of the Government of India irrespective of his/her political alliance whether Congress, BJP, BJD or XYZ…….
Nobody ever ready to accept that we (in Bhubaneswar) do not have an international airport yet. People who not yet travelled to Orissa/ Bhubaneswar are surprised to hear that. It is really a shame and hard to give excuse to those people that why we don’t have an international airport yet.
I don’t know whether our Representatives can wake up and do something for us. We are only hearing that billions of billions of dollar projects are in pipeline for Orissa but where?????? People of Orissa not yet feel it……..

I also believe that the eastern region required a one more International airport.It will reduce the load the DumDum (Kollata) airport. Bhubaneswar has also the capacity to be an International airport to establish. It will also help to increase the Business and creates more opportunity for Odisha as well as the eastern region.Specially the MNCs which are interested to open their offices in BBSR they will put more interest on it.
For Odisha to grow one International airport must in BBSR.

Its High time for Odisha to have these…And its not very big demand as well.
Odisha from it’s inception has not been favoured by any ministers in the past to have such basic infrastructures. It is high time in this globalized world to have at least one international airport in every state for it’s overall development. I strongly urge to the government that such a facility should in fact be made a reality very soon. Otherwise, we have to do another candle light for the same around the globe.

recently in gujarat there is inter state air connectivity among 11 cities.but in orissa!! only one…..domestic?are not we indians?????
Due to lack of air connectivity Rourkela (the industrial capital of odisha) and entire western zone cannot grow like other cities of India.
